I was enjoying Captain Miller, a Tamil movie when I noticed how Folklore has been seamlessly pervasive in every aspect of our lives. It intrigued me that I discussed it with my peers the representation of folklore in media. This led to the birth of "Reels, Rituals and Rasa".

It was an event that aimed to foster interdisciplinary dialogue and exploration of folk culture in media. The aim was to deepen one's understanding of how folk elements are represented and interpreted in contemporary media. A compilation of nine different movie snippets each representing one of the rasas and folkloristic elements were edited into a two and half hour long video. The compiled movie snippets from various cinema industries provides no sensory fulfillment or caters to aesthetic consciousness. The primary objective was to spot the implicit or hidden folk elements in the media through the Rasa Theory. The theory is the linking factor between Folklore and Media as both involve performance, storytelling and visual elements.
Extremely proud to share that what began as a discussion amongst Akash Nambiar, Athul Sk , Geethika Gireendran and I has led to an event attended by students of "Folklore in Context" and "Contemporary Media Studies".
